We strive to make philanthropy an intentional experience informed by our Jewish values. We fund a range of progressive organizations locally (Bay Area), domestically, and in Israel.
Our giving circle is a group of friends who live in Berkeley California. We have had four successful years of grantmaking. Last year we gave $13,500 in grants.
Our process: First, we think about which Jewish values inform our
tzedakah. Then, we all do some research about nonprofits that could benefit
from our gifts (which might include a conversation with the executive director
or board member). We then choose a few “candidates/nonprofits” as a group. With
a short list of very worthy projects (any of which we could support), we
finally come to a consensual decision about which nonprofits might best fit our
criteria for the donations.
