Deadline: April 5, 2016
Award Date: June 30, 2016

Description

Who we are: The Washington Heights Young Professionals Giving Circle brings together dynamic, community-minded Jews to explore pressing social needs, become more mindful in our personal practice of giving tzedakah (charity), and create a stronger sense of community. Through impactful and intentional philanthropy, we seek to invest in local organizations making a difference in our Northern Manhattan community.

Vision: We envision a Washington Heights/Inwood community in which all residents have the ability to meet their basic needs, allowing them to live more secure and fulfilled lives.

Mission: We will invest in organizations that address people's basic needs, including but not limited to food, shelter, dignified funerals, health care (including mental health care) and case management, for currently underserved populations. For example, this includes the elderly, recent immigrants, and individuals with disabilities.

Preference will be given to organizations or projects:

  • With plans to create a sustainable, continued impact
  • With a proven track record of success and/or the necessary infrastructure to be successful
  • Using new or innovative models or methodologies to deliver services
  • Have a 501c3 designation or a fiscal sponsor who does

Eligible organizations or projects must primarily serve residents of Northern Manhattan (150th St and above).

Up to $1,500 in funds is available during this grant cycle and will be awarded to one or more qualifying organizations.

Application/Nomination Process and Deadlines:

We're using the Amplifier Common Application to collect information about your organization and/or project. It's simple to fill out, and once your organization has created a profile, you can also use it to apply for funding from the over 80 Giving Circles currently listed on the site. Many organizations have chosen to make their Common Applications publicly visible; if you'd like to see some examples, feel free to browse the organizations' profiles here.

While we recommend you use the Amplifier Common Application, we recognize that for many organizations, staff time is very limited. If creating a profile and completing the Common Application would put an unnecessary burden on your organization's resources, please email [email protected] to indicate your interest, and we'll be in touch discuss a more convenient format for us to learn more about your organization.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 11:59pm EST.

The members of the Giving Circle will review all applications and notify awardees by June 2016.

If you have any questions about the Washington Heights Young Professionals Giving Circle, the grant process, or your organization’s eligibility to apply, please reach out to us at [email protected] We are also happy to advise interested organizations as they work on their applications.
