Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Should I apply for the Incubator?
This program is for anyone who is new to giving circles and excited to launch one through their personal or professional network. The giving circles started through the Incubator are inspired by Jewish values. This does not mean that you have to give to Jewish nonprofits or all of your members have to be Jewish. Rather, your giving circle will think together about how Jewish values and wisdom apply to your giving.

  • What types of giving circles have past participants started through the Incubator?
Participants have successfully started giving circles as part of their work in the Jewish community, as a lay leader with a specific organization, or as a grassroots leader with family and friends. We have partnered with many different kinds of organizations through the Incubator, including Jewish Community Centers, Jewish Federations, social justice organizations, day schools, synagogues and more.

  • What can I expect to learn in the Incubator?
We will walk you through the steps of getting a giving circle off the ground. We will start with the recruitment process and go through your first grantmaking cycle. We will also discuss how to set up your giving circle for success in future cycles.

  • Who will support me, as I launch my giving circle?
Your primary Amplifier staff contact, throughout the Incubator, will be Mollie Andron, Amplifier’s program director. Mollie has over 10 years of experience as a Jewish experiential Educator and has been apart of a grassroots giving circle for the past 3 years. You will also be matched with a coach, who is either an experienced giving circle leader or has relevant subject matter expertise.
  • What happens after the program is officially over?
You are officially part of the Amplifier network! You will still have the option of attending our annual convening and other trainings and will have a chance to be connected with other giving circle leaders in our network. You will also have the chance to apply for additional microgrants to cover programmatic elements of your giving circle.

  • What is the cost of the program? And what if I can’t afford it?
The cost varies, depending on the type of participant and the size of your organization. For individuals who are unaffiliated with an organization, the cost is $150. For professionals who work at organizations with a budget of less than $5 million, the cost is $750. For professionals who work at organizations with a budget of more than $5 million, the cost is $1500. If you are interested in having more than one person from your organization participate, the cost for the second person will be 50% off the program fee.
If financial constraints will make it difficult for you to participate in the Incubator, please email Mollie Andron at [email protected] We want to make the program accessible to anyone interested in starting new giving circles, regardless of your financial capacity.

  • What is the time commitment?
The program starts with a two-day learning retreat in New York, New York on Sunday, November 4th and Monday, November 5th. The retreat will start Sunday morning and end on Monday afternoon. There are 6 webinars after the retreat that will be scheduled in advance. You will work together with your coach to schedule monthly coaching calls that fit within your schedule.

  • Is the learning retreat and hotel stay included in the cost of the program?
Yes! The program fee covers your travel and accommodations for the retreat. You will book your own travel and be reimbursed and we will reserve a block of rooms at a hotel near the event space for a discounted rate.

  • Can I still participate in the Incubator if I can't make the learning retreat?
From experience, we know that the in-person learning retreat is an important way to launch the program and create community. We strongly advise people to attend. However, if you have a previous commitment, we can find a way to catch you up. It’s also helpful to have a teammate in this circumstance; if you can’t make the learning retreat, perhaps your colleague or giving circle co-leader can.
